…the ring girls! Ah yes, remember them? They’d walk around in swimsuits and hold up clever signs prior to matches. And you know what, she’s right – steak tartare IS in fact raw! Guessing a lot of wrestling fans wouldn’t have known that, so they’re getting an education as well!
The opposition for High Energy this week would be jobber extraordinaire “Iron” Mike Sharpe and his partner Von Krus, who would go on to become Big Vito. While Sharpe has sadly passed away, Vito is still around and kicking, working with our old pal Vince Russo these days in Juggalo Championship Wrestling. This would for sure be one of if his actual first appearance in a major promotion.
High Energy is introduced and…well, yeah, there’s your proof that those publicity shots you’d always see of them weren’t a joke. This is actually what they wore to the ring. I love Koko doing a little dance and Owen giving him the double finger guns and a “WHOA!!!” as if it’s the most impressive thing he’s ever witnessed.
The match begins and Mike gets a few moves in before getting knocked to the canvas. Getting beaten on of course causes him to bellow in a manner that sounds like a pair of bison getting into an argument. IYKYK as the kids like to say.
Koko tags in and the boys make a wish and allow Mike to tag out to Von Krus, who immediately is overwhelmed by Koko and Owen.
In fact, it takes them no time to put Krus away with a dropkick rollup combo. That…actually looks kinda cool and someone needs to bring it back post haste. Pretty sure I never underestimated Owen as a worker, but Koko I have for sure. That or I just don’t want him to beat the life out of me like he did to some schmoe in a prior Squash of the Week!
