Matt over at Dinosaur Dracula put up a new article featuring a 1995 Toys R Us catalog including this page with a WWF Raw Super Nintendo game for $72.99 after coupon!
That is insane even for Toys R Us’ inflated prices!
How much was it before you applied the coupon? $80?!
A freaking Super Nintendo system itself cost like $150!
Can anyone explain why? Just … why?
Apparently Toys R Us was the only place some people would or could buy games from… I guess.
Funnily enough many of the people who grew up when the SNES was out, spend part of their time now complaining about how expensive modern games are. Apparently SNES games being expensive as they were wasn’t an issue when your parents were footing the bill.
I faintly remember the asking price for Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Chrono Trigger were $75 a pop.
I paid for most of my SNES games and I made it a point to almost never buy them at TRU because TRU charged insane prices like this.
The best to my knowledge, SNES and N64 games, new, usually were listed at $69.95. Why the extra bump for Raw, AFTER coupon discount, is puzzling.
When Uniracers and Kirby’s Puyo Pop costs less than the WWF, you might have some Toys “R” Us Problems.
I remember once seeing a catalog for SNES games where everything was $99.99, except for Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (which was $24.99) and something else – may have been Illusion of Gaia – that was $54.99.
Yikes! That’s crazy!
I paid $74.99. it was worth every penny! The Mega moves were sweet and you had LUNA in a game!!!
