Zach Gowen in 2025, Worst Women’s Match, Real American Freestyle Wrestling, and More WrestleMania IX!

Zach Gowen

Have to say that I sure wasn’t expecting to see Zach Gowen on AEW television in 2025, but here he is taking on Ricochet this upcoming Wednesday night on Dynamite. That sure is weird. Not sure if it’s good or bad, but I will say this – you can tell Ricochet is having the absolute time of his life right now. He’s so much better as a heel it’s kinda crazy. There’s your wrestling take for the week, let’s roll over to the mailbag to see what’s on y’all’s minds this week…

Sean B kicks us off with…”What match is worse between That Gayda Match, That Morasca-Sharmell match or Shelly vs Rebel?”

That’s like asking if I’d rather be punched in the nose, poked in the eye, or kicked in the groin. Overall though, I have to going Jenna-Sharmell. I of course loves me some Trish (even bad Trish) and Rebel will always hold a special place in my heart due to our interactions. Plus objectively, Jenna-Sharmell was way worse than the other two. Guessing there are even worse women’s matches out there, so drop me some induction ideas in the comments section, won’t you?

Chad A wants to know…”What do you think of this new Hogan/Bischoff venture: Real American Freestyle? Sounds to me they found another money mark to completely suck dry and a possible new Gooker nominee”

I never like the term money mark, as it’s a bit too easy to label anyone trying something new in such a manner. In business, sometimes you have to try something different, you have to experiment, because honestly, you never know what might wind up getting folks’ attention. All that said, I can’t really see this working simply because Hogan is persona non grata seemingly anywhere he goes these days. I don’t want Hulk Hogan to be involved in anything real – I want him to continue as the tall tale cartoon he’s been for years. I need more stories of working 400 days a year due to time zones and Andre the Giant weighing 100 pounds more ever time Hogan mentions him. Give me less Real American Freestyle and more Hulkster’s True Life Stories (Which Are Totally Made Up)!

Dustin N ponders…”Did Kevin Wacholz ever have a single watchable match?”

I sure don’t think so, no. I could probably spend six months just inducting his matches and not run out.

Thomas M goes deep with…”What can you tell us about the making of the WrestleCrap Radio shoot interview? It’s a favorite of mine and I wish it was available.”

Oh man, the SHOOT interview! That was fun for sure. So shoot interviews were all the rage at the time and Blade and I wanted to, as always, mock whatever was popular. We came up with some ridiculous questions and had our buddy Casey over to ask them. We actually taped it in my dining room (!!!). I can’t believe that’s not available some place, I always lose track of what is available and what isn’t. If someone could help me figure that stuff out I could attempt to get all of that posted. I’d appreciate that for sure as otherwise I think it would wind up lost to the sands of time so to speak. I should really hunt down the guy who handles wrestlecrapradio.com and work on that with him. Been too long since I’ve talked with him.

Paul asks…”Did you watch the WrestleMania IX documentary?”

I was able to catch it a few weeks ago. So much of it was the same old WWE stuff where I alternately said, “Well, that’s kinda interesting ” and “well, that’s not true at all”, and generally a lot more the latter. It’s so weird that anyone anywhere would find that show to be something to celebrate as it was and continues to be a complete train wreck.

Dustin N queries…”Can we get some more full PPV inductions? Slamboree ’93 and ’96 both spring to mind.”

I’ll add them to…

…our to do list. And what you see there is nowhere near the whole list. Our work is seemingly never done.

And to that end…I will leave you today with a teaser for this upcoming week’s induction:

Giant Gonzalez WWF Mania

It’s even better than what is pictured here. I know that sounds impossible, but you’ll get to experience it for yourselves this Thursday night!
