Let’s talk WWE Unreal for a moment. What a self-aggrandizing pile of utter crap this is. What could have been something at least interesting to see (an actual look behind the scenes in the largest wrestling company the world has ever known), is yet another vehicle to make sure everyone knows how smart and awesome good ol’ Triple H is. It’s truly incredible how insecure this man is, and if you lived through his nonstop, unwanted pushes during his in-ring days, you know this is nothing new. I actually feel sorry for someone who is that insecure, as it must be horrible to live life in that manner. But of course the company is right there with nonstop propaganda to make sure his ego is fully ballooned. Meet the new king, same as the old king as the saying goes. Hopefully y’all have something to wash this gross taste out of my mouth…
Paul M kicks us off with…”Which dream match Peak Muta vs Osprey or WALTER vs Stan Hansen?”
I’m pretty sure at this point Will Ospreay has become my favorite wrestler of all time, so anyone dream match is going to have him on one side of it. That said, as much as I love Muta, I think I would have preferred him versus 1986, super mega heel Randy Savage. Go back and watch Savage when he first came into the WWF and he was absolutely incredible, just completely different than anyone else in the company at the time. I totally get why he turned, but that one year or Savage being 100% on-brand, out of control, Macho Man is still arguably my favorite run ever for someone. No life line needed – THAT Randy Savage vs. pre-injured Will Ospreay is my final answer.
Brian C asks…”What do you think is the greatest WWE/ WWF video game of all time?”
That depends on your definition of ‘greatest’. If it’s the game I play the most even to this day, it would be WWF Superstars, the original arcade game. I know that’s blasphemy to everyone who feels WrestleFest is better, but I love the fast-paced action of Superstars, plus it has Randy Savage. The newer games are fun, no doubt, the N64 ones are legendary for a reason, and I played more hours of Here Comes the Pain than likely anything else…but I’m an arcade guy at heart so Superstars will always be my pick.
Mike M tears off his shirt with…”What were your initial thoughts when you heard the news about Hulk Hogan’s passing?”
It’s weird, I thought I did a mailbag about this but checking back I guess not. I thought it was incredibly sad, not just his passing but the reactions I read about it. Hogan said and did some very bad things, of that there is no question. But he also brought a lot – A LOT – of joy to the world. I was never a Hulkamaniac, but I remember a live show I was at where he came out and I just closed my eyes and listened to the reaction. I felt the energy, the happiness, of all those people just seeing him. It’s been 40 years and I still remember that. The world wants everything in black and white – this person is good, this person is bad. It’s never really that way. We all have our faults, we all do things wrong. Look up John 8:7 sometime. Ain’t none of us perfect.
Dustin N ponders…”Favorite wrestling DVD set?”
There was a five disc set called Wrestling Gold that I loved that featured the combination of Jim Cornette and Dave Meltzer on commentary together. Yes, this is a thing that actually happened before Cornette figured out that the best way to drive traffic was to bash Dave and become what is a more or less an updated version of sports radio shock jocks. It’s worth hunting down for sure.
Taylor W wants to know…”Considering how you were one of the first to jump on the podcasting bandwagon, do you listen to/watch any particular podcasts now, wrestling or otherwise?”
Yep, I listen to podcasts pretty much daily. I still listen to Bryan’s stuff (we’re tied together for life I think due to Death of WCW), he’s the best in the business and I don’t think anyone else is particularly close. I’ll catch clips here and there of others, but his are the only shows I listen to with any regularity. I spend most of my podcasting listening to stuff that is movie related, with The Weekly Planet and How Did This Get Made at the top of the list, with the Czabecast handling all my NFL needs. I do sometimes think about how Blade and I were really about 10 years too early to the party, but I will forever cherish those shows because it was just me and one of my best friends do something stupid we loved – just doing everything we could to make each other laugh. I can never hear Jim Ross without thinking about how Blade had him figured out YEARS ago, and now, only now, are others seeing the same thing he did.
Thomas M continues with…”I just listened to an episode of WrestleCrap Radio, where you mentioned the first episode was on August 12, 2005. With the twentieth anniversary coming up, what were your favorite memories of the show?”
I honestly had no idea that was coming up. I really should do something for that…any suggestions? Leave them in the comments below!
And I can’t top that so I won’t even try. Keep sending in those questions, yep you guessed it, righchere!
