There are three things noteworthy about this video from 1972:
1) Andre The Giant is looking svelte.
2) Andre does a tombstone piledriver.
3) The announcer calls it a tombstone, nearly two decades before The Undertaker used it. When you factor in that it’s a Japanese announcer calling it an English name, you’ve got to figure that it was invented elsewhere and that the name “tombstone piledriver” dates back even earlier than this.
What do you want on your Tombstone? Huh huh huh…
On my Tombstone it would say: How Much Does Dis Guy Used To Weigh
Apparently Jackie Pallo was using it in the mid-60s in the UK, but not sure if it was called a tombstone then:

Hey! He wrestled Mr. Humphreys on “Are You Being Served?”!
Once I track down the dreadful Australian version of that episode, it’s getting inducted.
I’d rather take Andre’s tombstone piledriver than his dreaded death valley diarrhea driver anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
No shit? 🙂
Andre was working for UPS at the time and asked what can brown do for you?
Just think…if Andre was off the mark by even a couple inches, Tombstone would be a pretty accurate description for this move.
