WWE Vault has done a great job giving us long-time fans the obscure videos we’ve wanted to see for years. Long-rumored matches that never saw the light of day, forgotten debuts, unknown dark matches. Really, lots of cool stuff.
While that’s all great, it’s still hard to beat the dedicated and obsessive fans that taped everything, kept the cassettes in good condition, and thought to upload them to Youtube.
Case in point: The debut match of Blue Angel.
Before he was The King of Harts or The Black Hart or even The Blue Blazer, Owen Hart was the Blue Angel. One could argue that the name was slightly better than being named after a colorful jacket. One could not argue that the mask was better than The Blue Blazer.
Regardless, Angel takes flight for the first time in this lengthy and competitive match against our favorite back-slapper, Barry Horowitz. It’s not really a squash because it goes on for so long, Horowitz has some decent offense (that kick!) and even gets a 2-count pin.
I know we’re all a bit jaded with wrestling and it takes a lot to get excited these days, but watch as the audience gets behind Blue Angel towards the end. Seriously, look at this guy’s face after he hits a moonsault.

He’s losing his mind over this masked newcomer. That’s actually really fun to see, just like it’s really fun to see this lesser-known debut for a future Intercontinental Champion.
