Someone Bought This: WWF Colorforms

WWF Colorforms box WWF Colorforms Action Set WWF Colorforms Action Set spread out

Colorforms were pretty simple- they were vinyl stickers that stuck to a shiny mat using static electricity.

And they were awesome!

If you didn’t have some kind of Colorforms set as a kid, I pity you.

The WWF Colorforms set includes wrestlers, accessories, and their logos that you can stick to a scene showing a wrestling ring in an arena.

It’s about as low-tech of a toy as you can get, but you could get hours of play out of these if you had an active imagination.

I remember having some Ninja Turtles Colorforms, and used to lick them if they wouldn’t stick to the backing. If I find any at a garage sale, I am definitely not touching them.

As a child of the 70’s imagine the fun you could have if the WWWF had put out a line of these when I was a kid. You could re-create the bloodbath feud of Superstar Billy Graham vs Dusty Rhodes or have Baron Mikel Scicluna take on Batman & Robin in a mind bending cross genre battle of the ages. Colorforms were one of the coolest toys you could get. Is the guy in the blue trunks supposed to be Barry O?

Is that supposed to be Mr Perfect in short trunks? No full singlet?

    • The Doctor of Style says:

Yup, it’s apparently a mistaken/outdated Mr. Perfect, judging by other pictures I found on the web.

Playing with colorforms means you can have Earthquake literally flatten his opponents!

Also, dig the little vinyl drinks and french fry cartons. So the angry audience can throw them at the vinyl wrestlers, I guess.

Since it has the 2x4s near the picture I thought it could be Duggan but it has no facial hair.

I have the travel version, essentially a fold-out mat, with a handful of the wrestlers, onone of the other randoms. I think the wrestlers are Hulk, Warrior, Savage, LOD, and Bushwhackers, but I’m not 100% positive. Colorforms are such a guilty pleasure from my childhood. Such worthless crap that somehow was entertaining.

  6. CP says:

I had tons of Colorforms as a kid. I never remember this set.

    Panini stickers too.

  7. Darryl Stewart says:

I misread the headline as WWF Chloroforms which sounds like something Duke Droese might have used backstage.

  8. Jerm says:

I had the Real Ghostbusters, Batman, and Muppet Babies, and I loved them. I would’ve KILLED for a WWF one.

  9. Christopher Olsen says:

It still blows my mind (and probably theirs as well!) that the Sheepherders had a color form set. They of the barbed wire match, and the original hardcore tag-team. Or that they were fan-favorites, especially children.

This looks like it’d have been pretty cool if you were in that age demographic.
