Today’s SQUASH is one I can’t do without smiling and thinking of my buddy Blade Braxton. If you’re a long-time Crapper, you know that he and I talked about Ken Patera on countless WrestleCrap Radios in days gone by, but rest assured, that was far from the only time we discussed that dude. We LOVED Ken Patera, and that adoration was largely built around a mythical finisher he would only uncork every once in a while, which made it even more special.
Here he is taking on one Ronnie Dee, who appears to be the love child of Al Perez and Vera from the TV show Alice. I type that and immediately wonder if I should make a more timely reference, only to determine that this match would have taken place when that show was still on the air! I’m old as dirt, what can I say?
The match starts and Patera immediately starts mauling the guy like an irritated bear. A couple shots to the back of the head, a classic Kenny body slam where he legit tosses the guy through the air, an elbow and a rolling takeover. You kinda get the feeling Mr. Patera was feeling it today!
He picks young Ronnie off the mat, only to neck him on the top rope. I love it that he doesn’t even let this poor schmoe get all the way to the mat before he drops a barrage of elbows on him. Some Greco-Roman choking follows soon thereafter.
Kenny then whips Dee into the rope with such velocity it causes the camera to blink blue bars across screen. More elbows would seem to be enough to put him away, but no no – fun time with Ken Patera ain’t over yet.
He hurks him up for a suplex with zero effort. He was billed a lot of times as the world’s strongest man and while I doubt he ever was, you can tell this is a beast of a dude. Heck, look at that crowd – they’re cheering like madmen for him, despite the fact he was most assuredly a heel here. And trust me, they erupted when he pulled out the dreaded…

He obviously gets the win with that, but just because he absolutely loves us…
He does it AGAIN. That, THAT right there, is a move someone needs to bring back immediately. I promise you whoever does will become world champion of every promotion on planet earth. Still, no one will ever do it quite like Kenny!
