Giant Gonzalez is Back…and Squashing a Young Stallion!

Giant Gonzalez Jim Powers

You know how I like to get on kicks once I start finding more and more material on something, so it should come as zero shock that you’re about to get more Giant Gonzalez than you can handle! After doing a recent induction where he took over the show WWF Mania and an It Came From YouTube where we were teased with a feud pitting him against Hulk Hogan, it only makes sense to complete the trifecta and have him SQUASH a geek…

…namely this one, Jim Powers. Ah yes, he of Young Stallions fame, a tag team Vince was totally behind for like a week and a half before giving up on them. You may recall Powers’ partner, Paul Roma, headed over to WCW and became a Horseman. Powers stayed put and is about to get killed by Gonzalez. You may think that means Roma got the far better end of that deal, but you would only say that if you didn’t see what a disaster that stint of the Horsemen was!

Regardless, here comes Jorge doing what he does best – look BIG. You see him walking out, appearing to be twice as tall as manager Harvey Whippleman, and you can almost understand where folks would be see him lumbering to ringside like a Frankenstein monster as a license to print money.

Of course, the ridiculous outfit kinda countered all that, with the fur and the airbrushed muscles. Still, have to give Powers mad props for firing shot after shot and nearly breaking his hand in the process. You can’t hurt those abs of nylon steel, baby!

We get a kick of some sort that fells Powers then it’s back to more posing. Just watching Gonzalez shamble about, you can almost hear Vince yelling at him, “Keep those arms high in the air, dammit! It makes you look even taller!!”

It doesn’t take too long until play time is over and he chokeslams Jim into the canvas for the win. He then (very awkwardly) puts one foot on him to get the pin. This would have been one of the matches leading up to us getting Gonzalez vs. Undertaker…at WRESTLEMANIA. I know I inducted that years ago, but would y’all really blame me if I wanted to go back and do that one again? 🙂
