WrestleMania 25 in 2009 was promoted as being “The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania”. It was actually the 24th Anniversary (By the time of WrestleMania 25. 24 years had passed since WrestleMania 1 in 1985, not 25). They could have promoted it as “25 years of WrestleMania” but it was not the 25th Anniversary- that came the next year (2010) with WrestleMania 26.
Apparently the WWE doesn’t know what the word “Anniversary” means.
correct. They also billed the 2011 Survivor Series, 2012 Rumble and Summerslams as the “25th anniversary” instead of what it should have been, “25th annual”
I very happy to see this epic tweet pointing out an error that still pisses me off to that day. It was bad enough when WWE did it for WM 25, but to keep perpetuating the misnomer for other PPVs, when they surely got feedback from WM 25 alerting them to their mistake, just makes me even more pissed off.
I liken it to WWE’s misuse of the phrase “WWE Universe”. That is not the name for the fans, it’s the name of the place the fictional characters on WWE TV inhabit. Ask any fanfic writer, and they’ll tell you as much.
Not sure if I am getting this reference. I believe it is in the numbering of Wrestlemanias but still not getting how it would be wrong?
