Squash of the Week: Goldberg vs. Reese

WCW, 1998

If you weren’t around for the rise of Bill Goldberg back in the late 90’s, you really missed out. Dude was a massive star and got over in the simplest manner possible – he just went in and beat the ever loving crap out of everyone in his path.

Goldberg squashes were always fun, and one of his greatest took place on the legendary Thunder of all places. Yes, the show we always mock for being the dirt worst ever. Because on at least one night, it was amazing.

The match pitted Bill against Reese, a giant dude who was a legit seven foot tall. Reese attacked at the bell, and hit Goldberg with a gargantuan suplex.

Which of course Bill no sold and followed up with a brutal spear.

The announcers had the temerity to question if he could hit the big guy with the jackhammer

As if there was any doubt.

I reckon we’ll be seeing a lot of Bill ’round these parts!

Too bad he never got to try it on The Yeti or the Super Giant Ninja

How did WCW miss out on naming his finishing move Reese’s Pieces? I don’t remember Reese winning many matches, so don’t even know his finisher.
