WCW Christmas Brawl theme music album CD

Crapper Sean Bateman writes:

There was a Limited edition WCW CD called Christmas Brawl and it had the themes of the Nasty Boys and the Wrestlecrap inducted American Males to the Taskmaster an DDP, instead of the WCW Superstars singing Christmas carols.

Here’s an obscure one!

This CD was only available in Germany to support a WCW “Christmas Brawl” tour there in December 1996 (hence the Alex Wright song). You could also order it if you were in the “World Of Wrestling” (the wha?) fan club in Germany.

Bryan over at the WCW Worldwide blog has a track-by-track breakdown of it here.

Here’s the complete track listing if you’re interested:

Yes, with a name like “Christmas Brawl” it’s a real shame it doesn’t feature the wrestlers singing a bounty of traditional Christmas Carols.

I’m sure The Nasty Boys singing “Silent Night” or Alex Wright singing “O Tannenbaum” would have brought much Holiday joy to many around the world.

It would rank right up there with Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Andy Williams as one of the most cherished Christmas albums of all time.

On the plus side, it does include the American Males theme song. So, it’s got that going for it, at least…

Crapper Paul S. sent in this clip of the Alex Wright song “Heartbeat Away”:

Paul writes:

Fans who attended WCW’s 1996 “Christmas Brawl” Tour in Germany got a special Christmas bonus a CD full of WCW themes! Sadly there was no Christmas music on the album, but we did get this standout song of Alex Wright rapping over techno music.

Well, at least it’s a dance song, and he’s a character known for dancing to this kind of music, so I guess it fits.

Plus the fans in Germany were probably thrilled that their hometown boy got a new track with a special song just for them.

This is a rare moment of WCW actually doing something that makes sense.

  1. John says:

Since the spelling of the song is Hartbeat rather than Heartbeat does that mean it’s a long song dedicated to Bret or Jimmy Hart? I guess if the Germans go all a flutter for the Hoff’s music than it’s only natural to assume that this would have been a big seller also.

  2. Rob says:

I swear Alex Wright either used this as his theme music at one point or I found this a long long time ago, because I’ve heard Hartbeat Away before.

  3. VDM says:

Hey man! This is Alex Wright….. the German! If you want to know what the Germans are about, pick me, and you’re gonna have a hell of a wictory… I PROMISE.

  4. Matt Soileau says:

This is like something Frank Farian would produce. He produced Milli Vanilli and other “bands.” Look it up…

  5. Matt Soileau says:

Soooo, DDP gets co-writing credit on “Self High Five?” Oh, okay.

  6. Anonymous says:

This looks horrible and not even in the funny horrible way.

  7. Geoff says:

Horrible in the tacky, WCW esque, not- going- to- try- too- hard, kind of way. Yeah….
