Hello Queso Grande,
Those who watched the WWF in late 1997 might remember them broadcasting a series of rants by Jim Cornette. In what seemed to be semi-shoots, Cornette gave his opinions on the state of wrestling. They were an example of the WWF getting more and more “edgy” in those years, but surprising in that Cornette criticized the WWF and made explicit reference to WCW, which would’ve been unthinkable a couple years prior.
Here’s one example. Sorry if you live in Connecticut!
I remember he had to stop doing these because after the first couple were a huge success (because of Jim’s razor sharp wit and sense of humor), WWE wanted to script them and feed him lines and he didn’t want to do that.
Anyway, thanks Little Louie P!
This is why I respect Jim Cornette, he’s not afraid to say what he wants to say in regards to the state of wrestling.
and the NWA Invasion Angle was Wrestlecrap approved
Those were awesome but poor Jimmy got rewarded with The NEW Midnight Express which was the worst new thing since New Coke.
Nowadays, there’s Jim Cornette-Approved Shots whenever there’s a diva match.
Open question: Is Cornette the best/most entertaining (non-kayfabe) interviewee in wrestling history? I don’t think I’ve ever seen his mug in the sidebar on YouTube without clicking on it. Dude always has something amusing to say.
I hope Jim got over his speech impediment where he couldn’t say the letter F.
Oh, wait.
Simply freakin’ awesome.
