It Came From YouTube: WWE Slam City cartoon

This is WWE Slam City. It’s a new cartoon that will air on the WWE Network and Hulu and YouTube. You can see the official page for it here.

Here’s the plot- an evil villain takes over WWE and kidnaps Vince McMahon (!), so the wrestlers have to get regular jobs while also trying to get the company back.

It’s based on a Mattel toy line.

Here’s a USA Today article that explains it’s going to be an entire franchise with figures, cartoons, games, and more!

If I was 7 , I’d really love this cartoon.

Okay, even as an adult it made me laugh a lot more than I thought. I like the animation, too!

Alberto The Barista FTW!

What the FLUCK? This has trainwreck potential for adult viewers with child-like mentalities. You know, people like me.

I have to give them credit- the animation looks nice and it actually made me laugh a lot. It’s a lot better than I thought it would be.

  2. Art0Donnell says:

    Should that be “Dave Barista”?

  3. Cenamark says:

I don’t see why they didn’t get the wrestlers to voice themselves. It reminds me of Hulk Hogan’s Rockin’ Wrestling with Brad Garrett as Hulk.

    • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

The wrestlers aren’t voice actors, and are too busy with their schedules to regularly do recording sessions.

      • Jacob says:

Then how do you explain Scooby Doo and the WrestleMania Mystery?

      • Cenamark says:

They’re just little shorts, no longer than 5 minutes. Also you don’t take into account the acting abilities of the WWE Superstars. Cena was thrilling in the Marine, HHH was brilliant in The Chaperon, Big Show did Knucklehead, and the Miz was in The Marine 3.

        • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

5 minutes of cartoon = hours of studio work.

          • Jay "The Brain" Mann says:

John Cena’s done voice over work for things like Generator Rex and the aforementioned Scooby-Doo movie. Why can’t he do voice over work for a WWE-produced series of shorts that have runtimes of just over two minutes at best?

Honestly as a major cartoon connoisseur and all around kid trapped in a 24 yr olds body, I absolutely loved this! I didn’t think I would laugh at a single second of any of it but lo and behold, they managed to get some laughter out of me. I might have to keep up with this.

  5. Boz says:

Was the alternative pitch “an evil villain takes over WWE and kidnaps Vince McMahon” . . . and everybody says “meh, we’ll give it a few months, maybe a PPV or two to see if it gets any worse and then maybe think of doing something. If they get Punk back and push Bryan then maybe leave it longer than that”?

  6. Anonymous says:

It doesn’t even look that awful.

  7. Psycho Dave says:

I guess AJ Lee wanted some of Santino’s pepperoni.

  8. Thomas Moffatt says:

*cough* Gooker *cough* of the *cough* year *cough*

  9. feesh says:

    i love this hahaha

  10. Autrach Sejanoz says:

Looks like a poor man’s Robot Chicken.

  11. TMS says:

I admit it, the immature mark in me laughed at some of those. I don’t watch the current in-ring product, but this I might actually watch.

  12. VDM says:

Kind of surprised the CM Punk cameo made it in there.

  13. "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

The only way this could’ve been better is if there was a cameo from Gumby, Pokey, Davey, and Goliath.

  14. John C says:

I’d like to see the pairing of real Damian & Animated Damian. Maybe have them go out and do some robe shopping and attend some poetry readings. And at some point have a crossover with Sin City and have a Kane vs Marv match.

  15. AK says:

I bet the 40,000 point inspection list included an armbar.

  16. Dave says:

Nice touch with the CM Punk Ice Cream in the background of the first John Cena one.

Far from the worst thing WWE’s ever done.

  17. Jeremy says:

This made me more interested in Alberto Del Rio than Raw has in months.

  18. Mike Hunt says:

    I smell video game.

  19. Anon says:

I thought that The Finisher was Vader for a second. Overall, the cartoon was pretty good, but I’m gonna have to reiterate the need for Vader in this cartoon at some point.

    This needs Wade Barrett: Anchorman.
