Yes, people paid good money to see the 1994 Royal Rumble and this is what they got at the end of the Undertaker Vs. Yokozuna Casket Match.
Apparently it was Marty Jannetty dressed as The Undertaker when he “floated up to the heavens”. Kudos to him for doing that (seriously), because I’m terrified of heights and I’d have been way too afraid.
Scott Keith’s rants (both of them) on this incident in his 1994 Royal Rumble Rants are hilarious. He even transcribes The Undertaker’s little soliloquy for prosperity.
There had to have been a less convoluted way to explain why Undertaker started wearing purple shoes.
Maybe he was getting into Prince’s music and wanted the world to know?
He could’ve just come out & said so. Dunno why anyone’d be ashamed of liking Prince.
The Undertaker is insecure. heh.
Hey floated up toward heaven but got lost along the waaaaaayyyyy…
That is to say “He floated up toward Heaven…” I ruined everything.
LoveMatic Grandpa for the win!
So many years on and I still haven’t a clue what that was all about
The Undertaker wanted to take a vacation to spend some time with his wife, and this was the way they decided to write him off TV for a few months.
As to why they decided to do it THIS way? I guess Vince thought it would be memorable, and to his credit he was kind of right…
If The Undertaker didn’t think that “Diamonds And Pearls” was fantastic, then he truly has no soul. 🙂
Should have called his “Ministry” the NPG
Between Taker on a string and the awful tie in the Royal Rumble match itself that drove me to the horrors of WCW for the next year. Which would lead to its own craptacular events.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire, eh? 🙂
I asked Jannetty about this on Facebook. He replied,
‘wasnt me…was Steve Lombardi..but Ive heard that ever since though…all good, no worries’
