I love this promo so much. Waylon Mercy manages to make a nonsensical promo about picnics entertaining.
I could listen to him rattle off picnic food all day.
What do picnics have to do with wrestling?
Nothing! Nothing at all.
But who cares? This is amazing.
Man, it’s a shame Spivey’s body gave up on him (in terms of performing). Beneath that Southern accent and smile you can see the psycho nature of the character. Easy to see the influence on the Wyatt character.
Yeah.. I mean, he was supposed to be a heel but he was just so great doing this that I couldn’t help but cheer for him.
Yeah, the mid-90s saw a lot of duds in terms of characters, but this one had potential.
Wouldn’t it be great for Waylon Mercy to be revealed as Bray Wyatt’s real dad?
I don’t know. I’m still waiting for IRS to bring the suspenders and tie out of retirement and audit Bray for not paying his taxes on the cost of “beard maintenance” for him, Harper, & Rowan.
(Seeing as how Mike Rotundo is Bray’s real dad).
Then Irwin can bring in Repo Man to take the sheep mask as collateral on the back taxes owed.
surely the family is registered as a nonprofit…
6 Degrees of Wrestlecrap time: IRS and Waylon Mercy tagged as the US Express (II) in the 80s!
I would go on a picnic with him, he said there is gonna be hotdogs, hamburgers and potato salad…Sold
BONESAW’S READY… for a nice picnic.
Paul called this one right. It’s a credit to Spivey that his character comes off so strong despite the ridiculous script!
Did Mercy ever fight Razor Ramon? The Cape Fear knockoff vs. the Scarface knockoff…
Can I hire him to cater my child’s birthday party?
Best. Children’s Party. EVER!
Fun fact for ya: Vince McMahon credited himself with the Waylon Mercy character and gimmick. He said that it was based on a childhood acquaintance of his from North Carolina who spoke very slowly, dragging out every syllable in his words and also slow on the uptake. Then said that he would fly off the handle at a moments notice. This kid was an outcast according to Vince. This blows the notion of WWF ripping off Max Cady from Cape Fear for said character out of the Water. You’re welcome
Nope, white pants, Hawaiian shirt, little black tattoos, politeness hiding psychosis…call it Vince stretching the truth, call it an homage if you want, but it looks pretty obvious. You’re welcome!
