Someone sent this video oddity in to Scott Keith’s blog (click here to read what the person who submitted it wrote).
Apparently it was a local promo Jacques Rougeau did for a match in Ottawa, Canada after The Royal Canadian Mounted Police made WWE drop The Mountie gimmick. I don’t think he ever wrestled on TV as Jacques Rougeau during this period.
What’s really sad is that he could no longer come out to the awesome “I’m The Mountie” theme song (sing along, Crappers!):
He should have done a character who liked to climb up tall land masses, like Mount Everest. He’d Mount E.
He’s still the real Mountie to me, dammit! 🙂
The greatest law enforcement officer of all time? Maybe if he said Canadian.
No sir that honour goes to the late great Ray “The Big Boss Man” Traylor.
Like Pat Patterson, Jacques will always get his man.
lol “I AM……..Jacques Rougeau!”
as a Canadian I miss the old Maple Leaf Wrestling event center with Billy Red Lyons 🙂
From what I remember, whenever the Canadians get Maple Leaf Wrestling or any other Canadian WWF content, they cut in stuff from the Canadian house shows, and The Mountie was always listed and advertised as Jacques Rougeau.
I do not remember the promo at all though, just whenever we had Maple Leaf Wrestling in the Greater Toronto Area.
During the house show matches, he still wore the Mountie outfit, but just used his real name as well.
Oh and I forgot to mention, since we had a Buffalo FOX feed as well, we got WWF Superstars. Maple Leaf Wrestling became Superstars with the Canadian house show content.
So you get to see Jacques being advertised and wrestling as The Mountie in the States, while in Canada, he was Jacques Rougeau.
It was confusing for my little mark brain at the time.
id rather listen to Jacques Rougeau sing “Im the Mountie” a hundred timez in a row than listen to Celine Dion sing well anything honestly
WISH they would feature him on an Old School RAW – he could be a Fabulous Rougeau, The Mountie and a Quebeccer all on one show!
Didn’t remember Billy Red Lyons was an announcer in the 90s WWE. Was it only on Canadian television?
BTW, I aways wondered about the Quebecers theme he had later in the WWE:
“We’re NOT the Mounties”

Was it a hidden secessionist message?
Nothing says “Mountie” like hairy man boobs!
