In honor of the new Godzilla movie, I thought it’d be fun to revisit this segment from SD! back in 2005 that took place in Japan (why doesn’t WWE do more Raw or SDs from Japan anymore dammit!?)
A shame the Japanese crowd didn’t seem into it as much, I feel the US would laugh their asses off from this.
Also, he eats Pizza.
Outstanding! How have I never seen this until now?
Obviously the Japanese crowd wouldn’t pop because their was no big kickout after a count of two. And of course they would never fall for a cheap inflatible Godzilla when it should have been a guy in a suit knocking model buildings over.
I’d forgotten about this segment (I definitely remember seeing it at the time due to watching Smackdown! a lot at the time). I guess a lot of the Japanese fans aren’t really into comedy angles? I found it amusing admittedly, even though the dinosaur didn’t really look like Godzilla.
Actually, the Japanese usually love good comedy wrestling. They’ve got a couple promotions that are strictly comedy. I wonder if the lack of reaction had to do with them not really knowing what he was saying, though I admit I’m not sure.
Good point. Admittedly fans of that sort of promotion may not have been likely to want to attend WWE events, which may not be plausible considering what the WWE is like for these sorts of segments. I suppose it could also be due to humour not translating that well across cultures.
JBL doesn’t have a good track record in countries that were our enemies during World War II.
Ha… Well, that’s true…
My favorite part of that Japanese tour was on Raw when Eric Bischoff was joined in the ring by a Japanese interpreter who was booed out of the building whenever he tried to translate Bischoff’s promo.
At least this is better than Gooker winner Heel Dixie Carter
