It Came From YouTube: 90’s WWF shirts are here and they want to dance (!)

Yes, that’s Tammy Sytch AKA Sunny as Tamara Murphy giving us an Event Center update but that’s not why I wanted to share this.

Check out that boffo CGI animation in the Merchandise Catalog ad! It’s weird, cheesy, silly, and I dare say kind of fun. Pixar ain’t got nothing on the WWF’s CGI! I bet that URL’s not taken…

The CGI is pretty good for early-to-mid 90s TV, especially for what’s essentially a glorified commercial. It’s also fun to see Sunny filling the fairly straight role of quasi-news anchor. At the very least, she looks the part.

The really weird element here is Bob Backlund, who with his suit and bow tie, buzz cut, and slight jug Wars looks like an overgrown third-grader on class picture day. I’ve long thought that about Backlund, to be honest.

    • Thomas says:

Darn it, that should say “jug ears”.

      • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

“Jug Wars” should have been what they called a Divas Search. 🙂

        • Al Boondy says:

Did Backlund liken himself to Moses during that promo? I don’t remember him claiming to have actual face-to-face conversations with the Man Upstairs during that era …

P.S. Sunny never paused in between statements once during that entire segment, it was just one long run-on sentence …

  2. John Q Occupier says:

Still better-looking CGI than that stupid Emoticon movie…

  3. Sean Bateman says:

I heard a rumor that “Tamara Murphy” has an adult film. But it is a rumor.

  4. The Doctor of Style says:

    Awesome…the WWF meets Fantasia.

Certainly a better way to hawk shirts than Barry Didinsky!

  5. Andy says:

Backlund vs Adam Bomb in an “I Quit” match sounds like a terrible idea.

  6. Pete says:

You can tell those dancing t-shirts are geeks because they aren’t doing the Macarena.

“Ooh, a Video Toaster…let’s try out all the features!” – every video producer in the early 90’s
