The Borne/Kern one made me laugh out loud.

  2. Hashington says:

Worst mania by far. That ending still makes my brain hurt.

    • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

Yeah, I remember it pissed me off even as a young mark. I was very much not happy with the ending that was supposed to make me happy.

    • UltimatekeyboardWarrior says:

I think 11 or 27 may be worse.

  3. Raven7309 says:

    “Lex Express” FTW!!! 😀
Personally, I have no problem with Bob Backlund’s induction last year and Scott Hall’s induction this year into the WWE HOF. Backlund had a distinguished career in the WWWF, having the second longest title reign in WWE history. And Scott Hall/Razor Ramon is, imo, the second greatest IC champ of all time, right behind my personal favourite, the Honky Tonk Man. I’ve always thought it was a real shame that Hall never won either the WWF or WCW heavyweight titles. Of course we all know why.

I never said I had an issue with it. Just that we’re getting old. I was checking for grays when I realized the Shawn/Razor ladder match is now TWENTY FUCKING YEARS OLD.

  4. Autrach Sejanoz says:

    “Portrait of Wrestlecrap”, indeed!

  5. Downtown OPC says:

I do like the idea of framing those WrestleMania wide-pan shots, kind of like framing the shots of big sports stadiums.

  6. Jeremy says:

That last shot of Hogan looks like there’s storm clouds in the background. Even the Gods thought that was a bad idea.

  7. John C says:

It would be a fun game to try and explain the first picture to someone that has no idea what pro wrestling is.

I have honestly never seen why people hate this Wrestlemania so much. I will say that the event is personally significant in that I got into wrestling right around that time, but that aside, I can watch it today and still find a lot of fun stuff here. More baffling to me than what people find so appalling about this Wrestlemania is how highly they praise the next year’s Wrestlemania. Go back and watch the two. Aside from the Bret/Owen and HBK/Razor classics, the rest of WM X was absolute garbage. All in all, I would say Wrestlemania IX is at least on par with Wrestlemania X, if not a little better.

    • Justin Henry says:

      Hi Vince!

    • dennett316 says:

As lame as some of the Wrestlemania X matches were, they are equaled in lameness by Wrestlemania IX, and IX doesn’t have two great matches to save it. Saying IX was equal to X is bad enough, but saying better? Wow.

    • Mr. Glen says:

It’s ironic you got into wrestling at that time because that was the time I stopped watching wrestling (until 1998 that is).

      • gutterhippo says:

I don’t know what this says about me, but I got into wrestling in 1993 and was a huge fan from then through around the end of 1996, probably the most Wrestlecrappy 3 years of the company. I skipped the entire Attitude Era and picked back up in 2004, just in time for another downturn in the company..

I like this Wrestlemania for the most part. It had a few bright spots, such as the WWF debut of Jim Ross, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan’s hilarious entrance on that camel, and the Bret/Yoko match, which would’ve been better had they let it go longer & not involved Hogan. I was a huge Hogan fan back then, but for him to win the WWF Title at the end was ridiculous & made no sense. They should’ve let Bret win & move on to having a rematch at King of the Ring, and whether Bret won or lost (I’d have put Yoko over here by DQ so he could keep his heat), and then went with the huge WWF Title dream match between Bret and Hogan, which was the original plan according to Bret’s awesome book “Hitman”, where he reveals that they even took pics to promote the bout, which were never used. Bret was absolutely misused in ’93 thanks to Hogan. After this, they could’ve had Hogan put Bret over in his final WWF match & pass the torch, which could’ve lead into Bret defending the belt (Take that McMahon!) against Owen in the Main Event at WM X. Lex & Yoko could’ve still had their feud without involving the Title. Just my opinion.

  10. Chris says:

    I’m with those defending WM9.

The opening Tatanka/Michaels match was an enjoyable opener and the Steiners/Headshrinkers match that followed stands as being good. The Bobby Heenan stuff at the beginning was funnier than it should have been, and even Ramon/Backlund was entertaining, if instantly forgettable stuff.

Apart from the Undertaker/Gonzales monstrosity and The Ending Nobody Wanted, the worst thing about Wrestlemania 9 was Macho Man’s god-awful commentary. God bless his soul and all that, but there’s only so many times you can hear “DOING THE THING, OH YEAH!” before you opt to watch the rest of the show on mute.

Not sure if I’m allowed to get away with posting links to stuff in comments, but here’s what I wrote about WM9 a couple of months ago – http://allprowrestlingreviews.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/ppv-review-wwf-wrestlemania-9.html
