Jerry Lawler King burgers hamburgers resteraunt slamburgers

In the mid-70’s Jerry Lawler lent his name a burger restaurant called Smashburger in Memphis, Tennessee and there’s the menu.

Jerry Lawler Slamburger resteraunt

If I was in Memphis in the 70’s, I would be all over this place like white on rice!

And check out those prices! Everything is so cheap that you could in fact eat like a King!

Sadly it is closed and the building is apparently empty.  That’s the crappy part, guys!

“Yes, I’d like to order the half pint Superstar Bill Sundae.”

  2. Jimbolian says:

Outside of the main city, Memphis is a pretty depressing town.

But what’s this? “Gibroni”? Did King give The Rock his Jabroni catchphrase?!?

    • Autrach Sejanoz says:

The term ‘jabroni’ is/was a common phrase used by wrestlers in the carny talking era. Rocky just liked the sound of it.

  3. Al Boondy says:

Guessing Lawler himself did the artwork for that poster …

Also, is “gibroni” an early spelling for “jabroni”? Has the Iron Shiek been lying all this time, claiming that he was the one who originated the term?

  4. Geoff says:

Guessing also that King was also hardup for a job between wrestling stints. Isn’t that him at the counter pointing to the sign above?

  5. Scrooge McSuck says:

    “Home Made” Chili.

    Comedy that writes itself.

  6. Gotchism For Life says:

Any truth to the rumor Lawler only wanted girls aged 15-18 working there?

  7. #OPC says:

I don’t know how I’ve been watching wrestling all this time and have never heard the term, “SLAMburger”.

  8. The Doctor of Style says:

So this is where those “burger king” taunts originated…

  9. Brian Henegar says:

“We sell the food so cheap, because the King don’t need the money”…I’m guessing after three divorces, that is no longer the case huh?

  10. Anonymous says:

“Homemade” being in quotes next to chili is oddly creepy and makes me want to never try that or anything like it ever.

  11. John C says:

I see Jerry’s tossed salad is a off the menu item that has to be special ordered.

  12. That Don Guy says:

The Google Maps image is showing the wrong address. 5099 Old Summer Road is now the HighPockets Pool (“and poker”) Hall; apparently, it replaced an earlier pool hall on the site in 1983.
