In the late 1990’s WCW wanted fans to host and send in clips of their “Nitro Parties” as part of a contest where the winner would win… oh, who cares? Let’s just say it was tickets to Nitro and a chance to meet a wrestler and move on.
You might remember that the contest was sponsored by Mug Root Beer. Sometimes Tony Schivone would get their slogan “The Foam Goes Straight To Your Brain!” wrong, much to my amusement.
They’d show these endlessly stupid contest entries week after week.
The “parties” would usually consist of drunk college kids in their dorm room or at home watching Nitro, cheering on the wrestlers like maniacs, and dressing up as the wrestlers and cutting insane, rambling “promos” about how great WCW, WCW Nitro, and WCW wrestlers were.
In other words, it made wrestling fans look like complete and total idiots.
Thanks a load, WCW!
If you hosted and filmed or even just attended a Nitro Party, would you be brave enough to admit it in the Comments section below?
