It Came From YouTube: “The Main Event” arcade game rips-off WWF wrestlers

This is Joe Gagne’s review of Konami’s “The Main Event” arcade game.

The game is really nothing special.

I’m mostly posting it because Konami very obviously ripped-off several WWF wrestlers to make their roster, making only minor (and really goofy) cosmetic changes and giving them dumb, generic names.

    And that’s just Ricky Steamboat.

“The Main Event” was one of my favorite games back in the day. It offered exciting play, a variety of maneuvers and colorful (if not entirely original) characters. My team was Conan the Great (i.e. Hulk Hogan) and Alan the Empire (Andre the Giant).

I’d love to own that game, but they don;t seem to be up for sale often. Plus, I’m not rich and those old games take up a lot of room. Ah well, the memories live on.

I loved that game too. It’s funny to explain to kids now how you actually had to leave your house to go play games somewhere and how quarters were the most important thing in the world. Oh god I am old.
