Here is a clip From the second Muppet Show Pilot “Sex and Violence” involving a continuing skit of a wrestling match that went on during the show.

“Earthquake”? What a stupid name for a wrestler! That would never get over in real life…

And the matches are in Rounds? What is this; the Brawl For All tournament?

In Gene LeBelle’s territory they had 15 minute rounds and 2/3 falls. A pin or submission ended the round. It was known as Australian rules

Europe had the round format as well.

Brought to you by the AWF because doing bad matches in rounds just means goodness.

  4. Geoff says:

Jim Henson was a god. That is all

He did some really innovative things with puppetry throughout the years. What an amazing man.

  5. Mister Forth says:

Still better than this year’s Rumble.

    Somehow, this is missing Stubby.

Just want to point out that the Muppet Show originally was being shopped around to U.S. networks so ABC gave the show a chance by airing two pilot episodes but went nowhere. Thankfully, London was calling and greenlit the show and the rest is history.

    • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

You know your Muppet stuff! I thought I was the only one here who knew about the two pilots! 🙂

    • Jimbolian says:

Wooo boy, I think I see why ABC never gave it the go-ahead. I finished watching the pilot episode and it wasn’t that good at all. No Kermit (except for a 5-second cameo), no Fozzie, no Miss Piggy, no special guest, no “audience”…just none of the well-known characters and elements that made the Muppet Show fun to watch.

Even worse, there’s some generic lizard-looking muppet named “Nigel” who’s hosting the show along with Sam the Eagle and Floyd the Hippie. Plus Waldorf and Statler weren’t their usual snarky and witty selves sitting in the balcony as they were just two depressing old men waiting for death’s door.

If there was a Wrestlecrap for the Muppets, sign me up to write an induction cause this one sucked as much as the first Raw episode.

Since the Muppet Show was taped out of London I think it’s safe to presume this match was held under the World of Sport rules.

Actually now that I think about it Giant Haystacks might have been a product of Jim Henson’s creature shop.

  8. The Doctor of Style says:

Surely the only time anyone ever called Kermit the Frog a “sadist”.
