It Came From YouTube: Bobby Heenan’s WrestleMania IX entrance

Randy Savage makes his noble entrance to Caesar’s Palace and WrestleMania IX.

Bobby Heenan’s entrance on the other hand was… well, typical of Bobby Heenan.

Which means it was very, very funny!

Still probably the most entertaining moments of this event all occurred during the opening entrances. Anything “The Brain” did was comedic gold. 20+ years later it unfortunately remains all time top 5 worst mania ever. 2 was strange and bit lackluster given multiple arenas and main events. 27 was rough, 13 just wasn’t good other than Bret/Austin and 23 with Lashley/Trump debacle. God I miss when Bobby Heenan ruled the WWF.

WM 23 was a “Top 5 Worst”? I know it all comes down to personal taste, but Cena/HBK was a near 5-star effort, Taker/Batista flirted with 4-stars in one of the best matches of Batista’s career, and there were pretty good efforts out of Benoit/MVP and Money in the Bank. The only “bad” stuff was usually limited to 5 minutes or less. That’s like saying WM X is a terrible show because 2 matches brought 5-star performances and everything else sucked.

If only the elephant would have stayed at ringside and squashed most of the dreadful show. VESTAL VIRGINS!!! VESTAL VIRGINS!!!! VESTAL VIRGINS!!!!!

    • Saint Stryfe (@saintstryfe) says:

Well the Wrestlecrap Historian is in again. Vestal Virigns were a real thing. They were priestesses of Vesta, the Roman goddess of the Hearth. They acted as Rome’s estate lawyers. They held onto all of the wills and testaments, so when someone died, they went and paid the Vestals for will to figure out where property went to. That they were virgins is simply that they remained honest – if a woman was virgin, the Romans figured – they had no reason to change those wills.

Heenan… “That’s an attack camel.” They don’t make many of ‘em like the Brain… He could salvage at least a grin for me from even the most wretched show.

I agree 100% about personal preference. Excluding the MITB match because those matches always deliver, I found Mania 23 had 2 good matches. MVP-Benoit I agree and even Shawn Cena I agree. Taker-Batista was average to me, nowhere near takers worst or best mania match. Lashley-Umaga was over promoted because of Trump. Lashley has not improved in any facet till this day. Kane-Khali is self explanatory. Womens lumberjill match usual T&A BS. ECW match was quick excuse to humor the minority of real ecw fans remaining. Also I felt you really have to suck to have a bad match with either Taker or Shawn. Maybe that’s why the performances at this event were expected or lackluster to me. I rank it #5 all time worst mania. Different strokes for different folks I guess. 9 still all time worst for me, especially as a Hart fan.

you forgot Money in the Bank, it seems.

      Personally, using the Cornette/Dooley system, I go ****3/4 for Cena/Shawn, **** for MITB, **** for Taker/Batista, **3/4 for Benoit/MVP, **1/2 for Lashley/Umaga, ** for Originals/New Breed, 1/2* for Kane/Khali, and DUD for the women

Arguably the best moment of the entire show.

You could just hear in JR’s voice “What the hell did I sign up for here”
