It Came From YouTube: A quartet of crappy gimmicks all in one match!

From Monday Night Raw in 1996 I give you The Godwinns vs. T.L Hopper and Who.

Two happy-go-lucky hog farmers take on an evil plumber and a masked guy whose gimmick is based on an old Abbott and Costello comedy routine.

Yes, all four guys are stuck in WrestleCrap Gimmick Hell at this point in their careers. We’re still in the mid-90′s “bad period” here for sure.

The only positive thing about this match is it that it inadvertently reminded me of how funny Abbott and Costello were- see for yourself!

  1. Thomas Moffatt says:

Try the Smokin’ Gunns defending the tag titles at Summerslam 96 against not only the Godwinns but the New Rockers and Bodydonnas, too – try that for Craptacular (!)

  2. The Scanian Maniac says:

What was the idea behind letting Neidhart return under the craptacular gimmick Mr Who, and not as the former tag team champion with Bret Hart, anyway?

    • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

I think it was just to rib the poor guy and ensure that he not get over.

      • Thomas Moffatt says:

It was a case of Saba Simba Syndrome

      • CBCB says:

And it’s a shame he didn’t get over. Just imagine. Instead of the “WHAT?” chants today, it’d be “WHO?” chants, and every time a heel cuts a promo, the arena would sound like it’s full of owls.

The jab at Jake The Snake is rough.

    • Mike Hunt says:

I thought, “Doctors found traces of blood in his alcohol stream” was hilarious. I miss that King.

      • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

Yeah, the reason Jerry kept taking shots at Jake is because Jake was still drinking and doing drugs at this time even while doing the Holier-Than-Thou face gimmick. I think Jerry was just annoyed at Jake being such a hypocrite.

        • Thomas Moffatt says:

No – it was a case of Jerry Lawler being forced to do it – Jerry didn’t want to do it and Jake said Jerry didn’t want to do it but was pushed into doing it

          • Matt Soileau says:

It’s called being an awesome heel. That’s what it’s called. Long before he was reduced to “PUPPIES!”

            • Thomas Moffatt says:

True it is a part of being an awesome heel but both Jerry and Jake didn’t want to do it – that’s why it should be WC alongside Sheamus v Bryan II and Piggy James

  4. Mike says:

    Lunatic Backlund was a hoot.

  5. Fishy says:

You’re a fountain of misinformation, Paul. I liked The Godwinns.

  6. John C says:

“I need a extra large condominium in order to prohibit the extraneous flows of my personal fluids so that I not have my copulation result in impregnating my spouse.”

  7. Doc75 says:

the odd thing iz the Godwinns take on Who n TL Hopper in which TL Hopper later became their manager az Uncle Cletus
